Ashley Gibbons

Utilizing quilting, lingerie and garment remnants to create images of women and the female form, I build a soft space with fabric to provoke hard dialogue. Contrasting delicate heirlooms with graphic images highlight and personify the dichotomy of a woman's role.

I play with female forms, personal intimates, and traditionally women’s techniques. I record, collect, and transfigure public artifacts of women’s private roles and choices. I seek the intersection of mass produced items of supposed intimacy and the resulting personal history, interpreting one moment, one action into a new story, a new memory, and a new framework.
